CM rejects SKIMS authorities’ proposal to take action against medico | Director says case sent for disciplinary action | | early times report Srinagar, Dec 14 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has rejected a proposal of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) authorities to take action against a Surgical Oncologist who had gone on leave in protest against lack of infrastructure in the SKIMS for cancer patients, sources told KNS. They said the Director SKIMS Dr Showkat Zargar had sent a proposal for termination of Dr Haji Altaf Gauhar to the Chief Secretary. “And the same was forwarded to the Chief Minister yesterday. However, the Chief Minister rejected the proposal,” sources added. The CM, a senior official in the GAD told KNS has written these remarks on the file: “Dr Altaf Haji should not be stopped from joining and Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education Department is appointed as inquiry officer to look into the circumstances that forced the said doctor to leave.” However, Director SKIMS said that Dr Gauhar’s case had been sent to the CM for disciplinary action. “He (Dr Gauhar) had left without proper permission and had gone out of the country. We sent his case to the CM (chairman of the governing body of the SKIMS) for disciplinary action,” Dr Zarger told KNS. Asked to comment about CM’s remarks, he said, “I don’t know about it yet. It (file) hasn’t reached to us yet.”
