Sham distributes cheques worth Rs. 7.68 lakh
Takes stock of essential commodities in the valley

SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 14: The Minister for health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today visited Directorate Horticulture Lal Mandi and took stock of various developmental schemes launched by the government for the promotion of Horticulture and Floriculture sectors to the state. On the occasion, Directors of Horticulture and Floriculture besides senior officers and orchardists were present.
Addressing the orchardists, Mr. Sharma said that government has taken various initiatives to promote the fruit industry which earns substantial amount of revenue for the state adding that boosting this sector would ultimately provide employment opportunities to large number of unemployed youth. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir state especially the valley has been bestowed with natural water resources and by exploitation of these resources, there is a great potential for expanding the floriculture sector also which inturn absorbs big chunk of unemployed youth. He said concerted efforts have been made by the government for developing these sectors on the latest scientific manners and added that the government has also formulated a comprehensive plan for timely transportation of the fresh flowers national and international markets.
The Minister distributed cheques worth Rs. 7.60 lakhs among the orchardists among them, Rs. 4.70 lakhs were distributed among 33 beneficiaries of Srinagar district and Rs. 2.98 lakhs among the orchardists of Budgam district.
The Minister also inspected the construction work of auction Hall coming up at a cost of Rs. 1.12 lakhs. He was informed that Rs. 85 lakhs have been spent on the project so far.
Later, the Minister also paid a visit to Tulip Garden and was informed about the measures being taken to make it more attractive for the tourists and impressed upon the concerned officials for working with dedication. He also visited Mughal Garden and discussed various issues for increasing the beauty of the garden and also took stock of various developmental activities presently under execution.
