Sarpanchs to assist in removal of encroachments | Sarpanchs call on Div Com | | EARLY TIMES report Srinagar, Dec 14: A delegation of around 30 sarpanches led by Ghulam Nabi Mir called on Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Hassan Samoon. During the meeting the Sarpanchs demanded that Government should allocate revolving funds to the Panchayats so that they can run their day to day affairs. They also demanded that elections to the Block Development Council should be held early and also urged that orientation trainings be organised for the Panchs and Sarpanchs. Divisional Commissioner directed that all Deputy Commissioners shall organise at least one monthly meeting with the Sarpanchs and the concerned District Officers at the Dist HQ. He gave directions to Director Rural Development Deptt Kashmir to nominate District Panchayat Officer as the District Coordinating Officer to oversee the affairs of the Panchayats at the District level. It was informed that a batch of 30 Sarpanchs have been selected for training and tour programme at Pune and the batch will leave on 26th January. He gave instructions to Rural Dev Deptt to immediately provide copies of Panchayat Raj Act and Rules in Urdu and English to the Sarpanchs, so that they are aware of their powers. Div Com also directed that all Numberdars and Chowkidars to report to the Sarpanchs. Samoon directed that Sarpanchs would assist the administration in removal of encroachments from Kahcharai land. He also redressed various grievances brought to his notice, by the delegation.
