EARLY TIMES REPORT
Poonch, Dec 14: Blaming successive National Conference (NC) regimes for under-development and backwardness of twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that except exploiting sentiments of the masses NC has done nothing to improve conditions of the people living in this belt.
While addressing public meeting organized by Shah Mohammad Tantrey in which hundreds of supporters of Tantrey joined the party, the PDP leaders regretted that this region remained neglected for decades together because successive NC regimes were never interested to develop this hilly belt.
They said that NC leadership has exploited sentiments of the people of this regime just for getting votes but on development front this belt remained neglected.
While highlighting discriminatory policies being adopted by the present NC regime, PDP leaders said that this region has been neglected in all spheres of life be it recruitment or development. They said that police recruitment has been conducted in some areas but not even a single recruitment rally has been organized in this belt.
PDP leaders highlighted revolutionary steps taken by the government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for the development and socio-economic growth of the people of this remote border belt. They mentioned that as Chief Minister of the State
“Through his conviction and sincerity Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has facilitated historic peace and confidence building initiatives which positively transformed the political discourse not only within the State, but throughout the sub-continent”, they observed and added that opening of cross LoC route for trade would bringing prosperity in this regime and credit for opening cross LoC route goes to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Party leaders, however, regretted that present dispensation headed by Omar Abdullah has failed to follow the path of development and peace which was carved out Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. “Instead of addressing problems of the people this regime has been trying to hoodwink the false promises”, they said and prevailing anarchy and chaos in the State was testimony of the failure of the present government.
Former Minister and MLA Mendhar Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan, MLA Darhal Choudhary Zulfikar Ali, Hussain Ali Wafa, Bharat Bhushan, Shah Mohammad Tantrey, Hamid Manhas, Imtiyaz Bandey, Gurmeet Singh Raja, Prem Sudan, Shamim Ganai, Shamim Dar and others addressed the meeting.
