Omar in damage control mode ahead of Jan 5 dead line | Begins 3 day tour of Congress dominated Chenab valley | | Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, Dec 14: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seems to be in damage control mode a head of January 5, 2012 dead line which is likely to be extended till January 12, 2012. The young Chief Minister who is presently under fire from Congress leadership which presses hard for rotational Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir after Omar Abdullah completes 3 years in office on January 5, 2012. The Congress leadership accuses Omar Abdullah for ignoring the Congress dominated areas on developmental front and Chenab valley is one among them where Omar Abdullah is presently on 3 days tour by road. Omar's Chenab Valley tour comes on close heels of January 5, 2012 deadline as Omar wants to win the hearts and support of local Congress MLA's of Chenab region who are considered close to former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who is lately seen having a soft corner for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as compared to JKPCC State President Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz. The latter launched an all out attack against Omar Abdullah and press for the demand of rotational Chief Minister before the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi who is likely to take final call over the issue anytime after the winter session of Parliament comes to an end on December 22. It was not only JKPCC President Saif-ud-Din Soz who slams Omar Abdullah for ignoring Congress dominated areas on developmental front, but Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad also slammed Omar Abdullah over slow pace of development in Chenab region including his home constituency Bhaderwah. Azad during his two days Bhaderwah visit on 14-10-2011 blamed the government for stopping all the developmental works started by him in Chenab region during his tenure as Chief Minister. "All the developmental works started by me as Chief Minister were left unfinished in present coalition regime----- All those developmental works requires hardly 3 to 4 months to get finished." Azad told the reporters during his Bhaderwah visit in October this year. The tug of war between the two coalition partners is not a new thing as far as Chenab region is concerned as the area witnessed several protest against Omar Abdullah after Former R&B Minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori supporters took to streets after his expulsion from the cabinet by Omar Abdullah Government when Saroori was outside the country to perform Umra in Saudi Arabia. Saroori was later received clean chit from CBI in impersonating case. The matter not only stops here, all the 5 Congress MLA's and one MLC of Chenab region boycotted the District Development meetings of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban district held in the month of July 2011 over the less allocation of funds to Chenab region as compared to other Districts of the state, as a result of which the DDB meetings in Chenab region faces constitutional crises as the DDB lacks quorum for passing out the annual budget plan which in fact happens for the first time in any part of the country. During his 3 days tour of Chenab valley, which began from Wednesday (14-12-2011) evening and as many as 18 public delegations are scheduled to meet with Omar Abdullah at Doda, before he took the review meeting with various officials of District Administration on Thursday. Playing sensibly, Omar Abdullah this time tries to rectify his previous mistakes as he (Omar) at this crucial juncture when he faces the trust deficit crusade from Congress leadership cannot afford the isolation of Congress party MLAs of Chenab region, as he (Omar) seems a ray of hope in them at this crucial time of his career. Congress MLAs of Chenab region are considered as supporters of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had soft corner for Omar Abdullah, as he (Azad) wants to keep away his rival Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz from taking the reign of Jammu and Kashmir once the Omar Government completes 3 year term in office. After meeting at Doda, Omar Abdullah will travel to Bhaderwah, home constituency of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, before he (Omar) flies to Kishtwar to hold a series of meeting with various cross section of the society. Omar is also scheduled to check the progress of land acquisition work of 840 MW Rattle Power Project to be constructed at Drabshala village of Kishtwar District, beside other developmental workers including construction Sangpora-Viloo tunnel in Chatroo Tehsil of Kishtwar District. As per the reports, 3 among the 5 Congress party MLA's Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Abdul Majid Wani and Ashok Kumar accompanied Omar Abdullah in his Doda tour and the other two MLA's Mohammad Sharief Naz and Vikar Rasool will join Omar, once he reaches their respective constituencies. As the January 5,2012 deadline is coming closer and closer, only time will tell that whether Omar Abdullah' attempt to rebuild its relationship with Congress party MLAs pays him the dividend or he will face the axe from the Central Congress leadership by making way for rotational Chief Minister-ship as demanded by the state Congress leadership. |
