Freaky intrusion by Chinese troops not a sign of attack on India: Govt | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 14: Notwithstanding occasional intrusion by the Chinese troops in Ladakh and in some sectors in North East the Government of India does not view such "freaky" attempts as first signs of Beijing's plan to attack India. Even Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, told Lok Sabha today that his Government does not share the view that China is preparing to attack India. "We are two great neighbours and our relations with China are good," he has said. Manmohan Singh explained that there were some freak cases of intrusion from the Chinese side as they do not recognise our Macmohan Line otherwise there is peace and tranquility all along the border. Hence Manmohan Singh has allayed fears over the Chinese real intentions which had been expressed by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. Omar Abdullah had tweeted that India does not show any spine while dealing with Chinese designs on the LAC in Ladakh and in the North East. To Manmohan Singh whatever games the Chinese troops play on the border in Ladakh and in the North East did not deserve any serious cognisance by New Delhi. Possibly Manmohan Singh is right. After the 1962 Chinese attack on the Indian borders in Ladakh and in the North East Beijing has never attempted at repeating the 1962 incident. Instead it has been simply needling India by claiming that Arunachal Pradesh is part of China. It wants some areas in Ladakh too. All these war games Beijing was playing simply to force New Delhi to check the Dalai Lama, who left Tibet after the Chinese occupied the area in 1959, to prevent the Buddhist spiritual leader from fulminating against China. Apart from this, Beijing's close proximity with Islamabad too is responsible for China to keep New Delhi on the tenterhooks. As part of its strategy to display pro-Pakistan bias China has been, during the last several years, issuing stapled visas to those citizens of Jammu and Kashmir who are to visit China. It has even issued stapled visas to those senior Indian Army functionaries who are posted in Jammu and Kashmir irrespective of the fact that these officers are not permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir. Security experts are of the view that the China is still not in a mood to mend fences with India by resolving the border issue and by not siding with Pakistan as far as the Kashmir issue is concerned. This is being done to keep India engaged in spending more on defence than on development. China does not want India to emerge militarily and economically so strong that it can pose a serious threat to the Chinese supremacy in Asia. Official reports says that after New Delhi received reports on Chinese freaky intrusion in Ladakh and North East and its military buildup all along the LAC it has cleared a scheme under which the Air Force was being strengthened with the induction of sophisticated fighter aircrafts and missiles. Besides this mountain brigades were being established and for all these programmes several thousand crores of rupees were to be spent. The same amount could have been utilised in the sectors of industry, agriculture and power generation. |
