Two days workshop on “Female Foeticide—Impact on our Society “ held

Jammu , Dec 14: Two days workshop on “Female Foeticide—Impact on our Society “in collaboration with state unit of NRHM (National Rural Health Mission) was today organized by NSS Unit of GCW, Parade .
The workshop started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Dr. Kiran Bakshi, principal of the college was the chief guest on the inaugural session of the workshop. She stressed on the role of women especially the young students in preventing female foeticide. Dr. Parminder Cheema former principal, who was the special guest, gave a comparative analysis of the roles of males and females in India and Australia. She impressed upon the NSS volunteers to raise their voice against the menace of murdering the female child in the womb and act as messengers to spread this message in the society.
Dr. Pragya Khanna was the resource person for the first session. She gave a power point presentation on “Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques: Use and misuse.” Dr. Shashi Koul was the resource person for the second session. She also gave power point presentation on “female foeticide a menace in our society”..
The second day of the workshop began with the symposium on the topic “Issues of Declining Birth rate of Girl Child” in which 14 students participated. The symposium was organized in collaboration with NRHM, state unit. Ahmadullah Bhatt was the chairperson for the second day. Dr. Shashi Koul, Dr. Pragya Khanna and Dr. B.B. Sharma were the jury members. Radhika Mahajan and Kiran Devi shared the first prize.The second prize was fetched by vasudha whereas the third prize was bagged by Mridhu Sharma. The consolation Prizes were won by Neha Sharma, Shivani Rathore and Kashya Bhutti. The NSS programme officer Dr. Sushma Mahajan, Dr. Aruna Dubey Convenor Advisory Board NSS and Dr. M.S. Pathania Co-ordinator IQAC were also present on the occasion. The proceedings of the programme were compared by Ms. Radhika Mahajan and Ms Komal Sharma The symposium was concluded by Dr. B.B Sharma. The formal vote of thanks was presented by NSS programme officers Dr. S.D.S Jamwal.
