Barring Gulmarg, slight improvement in Kashmir, Ladakh weather | | | Srinagar, Dec 15 : Barring world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and frontier district of Kupwara, there was slight improvement in the night temperature in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region.
However, the temperature remained below normal due to open sky, a Met department spokesman said here this afternoon.
He said there would be no large change in the weather in the region during the next two days. The weather will remain dry and cold, he said. The maximum will remain above normal.
After witnessing coldest night of the season when the minimum dipped to minus 3.3 degrees yesterday in summer capital, Srinagar, it was minus 2.6 degree this morning, an improvement of about one notch. However, it was still about two degrees below normal, he said.
The minimum was up by three degrees in world famous health resort of Pahalgam, base camp of Holy Amarnath cave, against yesterday, It was minus 3.8 degree this morning in the tourist resort against yesterdays minus 6.8 degree, he said adding coldest so far was minus 7.1 degrees on December 11.
The ski resort of Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir, however recorded minus 8.7 degrees this morning against yesterdays minus 10.4 degrees. Coldest so far was minus 10.4 degree in Gulmarg recorded on December 11.
The frontier district of Kupwara also witnessed further dip in the minimum temperature this morning. Against yesterday's minus 3 degree it was minus 3.2 degree this morning.
However, in other areas, the minimum has improved slightly.
The minimum was up by about four degree in Leh in Ladakh region.
Against yesterdays minus 13.6 degree it was minus 9 degree this morning. The coldest so far in Leh was minus 14.4 degree on December 13.
Similarly at border town of Kargil, the minimum was minus 12 degrees this morning against yesterdays minus 12.4 degrees.
