Coal mine workers raised demands | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, December 15 : Employees and workers working in various coal mines units including Metka, Mogla, Bariyal and Badogh of Kalakote demanded implementation of 6th pay commission recommendations and discarding of break in the services of casual workers working for the many years. The management of J&K Mineral Limited has always turned deaf ears towards their demands. The workers working in these coal mines halted the lifting of Coal w.e.f. 12 October, 2011 but continued the coal and gypsum extraction. There were five meetings with the representatives of workers and management even in the presence of concern minister but due to callous attitude of management of J&K minerals limited, the meetings remained futile. The prices of essential commodities has increased manifold and workers are leading a pathetic life due to financial constraints. This callous attitude of the management has compelled the workers to intensify the struggle. The workers of all the mines held a gate meeting at Mogla mine and unanimously decided to start fast unto death inside the Mogla mine. As per this decision more than 500 coal mines workers entered into the mines and started fast unto death three kilometers inside the said mine. Com. Om Parkash, General Secretary, Com. Sham Prasad Kesar, State Treasurer and Com. Ramesh Chander, Jt. Secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions urged upon the state government and the management of J&K Minerals Limited, to initiate immediate bilateral negotiation for their just and genuine demands keeping in view the risk to the lives of the workers sitting on fast unto death inside the mines due to lack of oxygen, and other dangerous gases can cause loss of lives of the workers.
