Cabinet reshuffle likely in first week of January Taj and Peerzada in danger zone | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 15: After having tentatively decided to allow Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to continue after January 5 the Congress high command may take up with the National Conference leadership the issue of expansion and reshuffle of the council of ministers. Reports said that the council of ministers may be reshuffled and expanded in the first week of January if there was no major political development in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Indications are that while three more legislators were to be inducted in the council of ministers, two from the Congress and one from the NC on the other about six ministers may be dropped. Informed sources said that if the two sides agreed to drop six ministers then three dropped ministers were to be from the Congress and the remaining three from the NC. Sources said that poor performance and complaints about corrupt practices were to be used as the yardstick for axing some ministers. On the basis of the complaints received by the State Account ability Commission and the Vigilance Organization two co-ministers Taj Mohiuddin and Peerzada Mohd Syed fall in the danger zone. As far as the National Conference is concerned Finance Minister,Abdul Rahim Rather,Law Minister,Ali Mohd Sagar, Industries Minister Surjit Singh Slathia, G H Mir Minister for Agriculture, Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani top the list of those who are not going to be dropped. According to these sources legislators from Kupwara and Doda-Kishtwar belts, which have remained unrepresented in the cabinet, may be inducted in the council of ministers. Sources said that the expansion of cabinet will see some minister to retain their portfolios. While the fate of the Congress ministers is to be decided by the high command for the National Conference cabinet reshuffle is not an easy affair because of the divergent views held on the matter by NC Chief, Dr Farooq Abdullah and chief Minister,Omar Abdullah. There are possibilities for giving a ministerial berth to a legislator belonging to the Kashmiri Panit community. It is for the first time since 1948 that the council of ministers has no representative from the minority community of Pandits.
