Day 20: BAJ continues its ongoing strike on issue of transfer of registration | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 15: Bar Association of Jammu (BAJ) continued long agitation against the move of the govt for taking away powers of registration from Judicial Officers and giving it to revenue/executive officers, the Bar Association Jammu and staged a massive Dharna in the High Court premises toady. The agitating lawyers were raising anti-govt slogans who is hell bent upon bringing in a corruption-ridden system to replace the time-tested and transparent process of registration of documents by Judicial Officers. The Bar Association has on a joint platform with all the trade, transport, social and political parties, given a Bandh Call for 20th December (coming Tuesday) to stress for its demand against divesting of powers of registration of documents from judicial officers. Speaking on the occasion B S Slathia, President Bar Association, stated that the Bar has deputed several teams of its member lawyers to all the Districts and Tehsils of the State to detail the common masses about the nefarious design of the govt in facilitating the regularisation of the illegal encroachments by land-mafia and powerful persons by the reported move. Criticizing the decision of state government, Vikram Sharma, General Secretary of the Bar Association, said that a govt is to act for the welfare of the common people of the State and not for the benefit of the land-mafia and illegal encroachers who are being encouraged by the govt by purporting to vest the registration powers with the revenue officers. Meanwhile Bar Association Jammu has also requested the representatives of different Bar Associations in their respective Districts & Tehsils across Kashmir Province to observe a complete Bandh on 20th December as the prevention of breach of civil rights of the natives of the State is the prime-most responsibility of the lawyers’ fraternity.
