12/15/2011 9:42:52 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 15All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association has welcomed the release of first instalment of Rs 6 crore by the Central government for development of border post at Suchetgarh, under Border Tourism Development project.
A meeting of the Jammu hoteliers’ association held here today under the chairmanship of its president Inderjeet Khajuria and attended by Ajay Gupta senior vice president, B S Manhas vice president, Pawan Gupta Gen Secy, Baldev Treasurer Sunil Suri and Amarjeet Singh secys have however observed that the amount advanced as the first instalment is too small and has demanded that more funds be allotted for the project to develop border tourism along the entire belt from Suchetgarh to Chambliyal.
Border Tourism has been an entirely new concept and the Govt of India is very serious and earnest to develop border tourism, which will provide economic boom to the inhabitants in the area. The Govt of India has already advanced Rs 6 Cr for the development of tourism infrastructure at the identified tourist spots of Suchet Garh,
Chamlayal, Hira Nagar fort, Narsinghgarh Mandir Gaghwal and Gharana Wet
land. The forum observed that the amount sanctioned is too meagre to create required infrastructure for development of tourism in the area.
The association demanded that the old border road from Kathua to Samba, which is in dilapidated condition, should be improved and made double lane, with planting of ornamental shady trees and setting up of rest houses and eating points at various places. It also demanded development of Suchetgarh border on the pattern of Wagha border in Amritsar.
The association further demanded that the Gharna Wetland where migratory birds from Siberia and Asian countries visit in large numbers, should be brought on the tourism map of the country. The habitants near the wet land should be involved in its development and economic uplift should be given the top priority.
