Legislature important pillar of democracy: Malhotra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, DECEMBER 15: Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council Mr. Amrit Malhotra has said that legislature is an important pillar of democracy and it is imperative for all organs of the state to uphold the sanctity of this sacred institution. This was stated by the Chairman while chairing a high level meeting of the officers of Home Department convened to discuss the security related issues of legislatures held here today. Legislators Mr. Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Mr. Murtaza Ahmad Khan, Mr. Jehangir Hussain Mir, Mr. B. R. Kundal, Syed Asgar Ali, Mr. Vijay Bakaya and Mr. Ravinder Kumar Sharma besides Principal Secretary Home Mr. B. R. Sharma, Director General of Police Mr. Kuldeep Khuda, Additional Director General of Police, Security Mr. Ram Lubhaya, Additional Director General of Police (HQ) Dr. S. P. Vaid , Secretary Legislative Council Mr. Mohammad Ashraf and other senior officers of the Home department and Legislative Council were present on the occasion. During the meeting threadbare discussion were held on norms and criteria followed for allotment of vehicles to the legislators and provision of personal security and observance of protocol by the field agencies. Principal Secretary Home and Director General of Police gave a detailed account of security provided to the legislators particularly the members of Legislative Council. Mr. Malhotra exhorted upon the officers that adequate security would be provided to the members of the legislature keeping in view the norms, criteria fixed by the government in this regard. He also impressed upon the officers to ensure that the legislators are given due regard and respect to which they are entitled as per the order of precedence.
