Dy CM for scientific management of solid waste ‘People defer agitation on his assurance’

JAMMU, DECEMBER 15- Stressing on scientific management of waste, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand today said serious steps are being taken for proper treatment and dumping of solid waste generated in the city, adding that modern treatment plant would be constructed for treatment and disposal of solid waste on modern lines.
Mr. Tara Chand said this while interacting with a deputation comprising of Sarpanches, Panches and local people from Bhalwal block.
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Raman Bhalla and Minister of State for Home, Revenue, Housing & Urban Development and PHE Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani were present in the meeting.
Principal Secretary H& UDD Mr. Suresh Kumar, District Development Commissioner, Jammu Mr. Sanjeev Verma, SSP Jammu Mr. Anand Jain, Commissioner, JMC Mr. Mr. S.C. Sawhney and Custodian Mr. Wani also attended.
Deputation apprised the Deputy Chief Minister that in year 2003 also, when JMC started dumping waste at the site, the process was stopped on strong resentment by the locals.
While responding to the concerns, Mr. Tara Chand framed a committee comprising of prominent persons of Bhalwal area to assist administration to locate alternate site for dumping.
Agreeing to the suggestions by the Deputy Chief Minister, people deferred the agitation for the time being and assured full support on the issue.
Members of the deputation apprised Mr. Tara Chand about the problems being faced by the people due to dumping of solid waste in the area. They said that surrounding areas of the site accommodate residential colonies and educational institutes and demanded relocation of land for dumping of solid waste.
Listening to their demands, Deputy Chief Minister said the government is serious to redress their demands on priority and assured that alternate land for dumping of solid waste would be located at the earliest. He said Solid Waste treatment plant would also open employment avenues for the locals.
