Road journey costlier than air travel, Omar | | | Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, Dec 15: Justifying air travel, the Chief Minister today said journey by road was costlier. "As much as I love these road tours the inconvenience caused to other road users & the cost of all the vehicles that accompany is too much." Omar Abdullah twitted. Omar is presently on three day tours of Chenab region. In his recent tweet he said last evening that he loves to travel by road but the cost of all the vehicles that accompany him is too much. Omar tried to convey that any road journey by him was costlier as compared to air travel. However, Omar forgot to mention that the officers have to remain around the Chief Minister in the area he intends to visit even if he travels by air. According to details furnished by Civil Aviation Department in response to a RTI , the government has spent at least Rs. 12 Corer for ferrying Chief Minister and other ministers to various destinations within the state during last two years. The Department further said that Rs. 2,49,99910 were spent on maintenance, inspection, examination and parking charges. During the two years, scores of trips have been made by the Chief Minister and some ministers from different places and most of them were on Gulmarg to Nehru Helipad and Phalgham to Nehru Helipad. Both the destinations are famous tourist destinations. Soon after his tweet, Omar chose to fly to Bhaderwah and Kishtwar. During his 180 Km journey from Jammu to Doda yesterday, Omar met several delegations. This is Omar Abdullah's first journey by road in Chenab region which is considered an accidental prone area. During the past few years around 700 people lost their lives while travelling on this road. |
