Business activities remain crippled in Srinagar due to strike | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Dec 16 : Business activities remained crippled in the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) in Srinagar for the second day today in protest against the death of a shopkeeper, allegedly after being hit in the head by miscreants when he refused to close his shop on December 3.
The Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested four people, involved in the crime.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in Nowhatta, Gojwara, Pandan, Rajouri Kadal, Khwaja Bazar and other areas in the downtown and SeK against the death of Tariq Ahmad Bhat, who succumbed to his injuries in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences on December 14.
However, the Jamia masjid market was open today.
The strike call was given by the shopkeepers associations.
Transport was plying normally on all routes.
A police spokesman said four suspected stone pelters, who beat and critically injured Bhat at Gojwara Chowk, had been arrested.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, few other ministers, ruling National Conference(NC) and opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) leaders had strongly conedemned the killing.
The Hurriyat Conference (HC), Dukhtaran-e-Milat and other separatist organisations had also condemned the incident.
