Stop disengaging day & night guards: Tarigami to Aircel | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU Dec 16: CPI (M) State Secretary M Y Tarigami and MLA has called upon Aircel Cellular Company to stop its proposed move of disengaging the day and night guards working for the operation of its towers across Jammu and Kashmir. He sought intervention of the government to prevent the process of replacing the State’s youth by the company following its sublet agreement with another Mobile company giant, GTL. In a statement issued today, he lashed out at the mobile company for paying pea nuts to these guards, adding that Rs 2800 remuneration per month is violation of labour laws and Minimum Wages Act given their constant duty schedule of over 10 hours. He said it was unfortunate that the company has not even kept account of their monthly Rs 200 Provident Fund subscription. He also exhorted the company to pay wages to its employees on time. The trade union leader also took serious note of harassment reports of the guards at the hands of B D security of the company, asserting that nobody will be allowed to snatch the livelihood means of over 2400 guards engaged by the company for last six years since its launch in Jammu and Kashmir. He also urged these guards to unite for safeguarding their service interests while pledging his full support to their peaceful struggle to secure justice to them.
