Ensure drinking water facilities to all habitations: EC to PHE deptt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 16:Committee on Estimates (EC) of Legislative Assembly today asked the officers and engineers of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department to gear up the field functionaries and identify the those habitations who have not been provided drinking water facilities so far.
The Committee stressed upon them to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of PHE schemes for the leftover habitations under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) at the earliest. The Committee, which met here under the Chairmanship of MLA Dr Mustafa Kamal reviewed the working and progress of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control departments. The Committee members A R Veeri, Ashok Khajura, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Choudhry Zulfkar Ali, Murtaza Ahmad Khan and Subash Chander Gupta asked the officers and engineers of PHE, Irrigation and FC departments to identify dependable source with a potential for 3 to 4 decades while formulating DPR for any project or scheme. The Committee directed PHE authorities to settle all eligible pending land donate cases for employment to the owner in all districts by March 15, 2012. It asked the officers of Irrigation department to furnish status report of work on Mavas Canal, Harwan for its scrutiny. Giving details about revenue realized by the PHE, I & FC departments, the meeting was informed that Rs 20 crore has been received from Power Development Corporation (PDC) as water usage, while Rs One core has been realized as Irrigation Water Tax (IWT) from farmers of Kashmir division and Rs.65 lakh from Jammu division during the current fiscal so far.
