| Meghalaya police informed of possible Army operations | | | SHILLONG, JAN 12 The Meghalaya police have been informed about the possibility of the army carrying out operations against the ULFA, but he was unaware if they had entered the state, Chief Minister J D Rymbai said today. "I have no idea if the army has entered Meghalaya. But we are prepared and have informed the police about the possibility of the army carrying out counter-insurgency operations in the state," he told reporters. Instructions have also been issued to the police to prevent entry of ULFA militants to the state, Rymbai said. When his attention was drawn to the chief secretary's statement yesterday that the army did not require to send prior notice to the government to enter certain parts, Rymbai said he would inquire into it. Home minister R G Lyngdoh had said that the police were on alert following the ULFA attack on Hindi-speaking people in neighbouring Assam. The police were also assisting the army in border areas to flush out militants, he said. |
