Work comes to a grinding halt in Mongla coal mines as workers strike enters 2nd day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 16: The extraction of coal came to a grinding halt in Mogla coal mines Kalakote for the second consecutive day today as hundreds of workers continued their strike in support of theiur demand for implementation of 6th Pay commission report. Led by president of Bharatiya Coal Mines Mazdoor Union, Ramesh chander hundreds of protesting workers of the Union continued day long demonstration and raised slogans against the management of JK minerals and State Government for their callous attitude towards the coal mines workers. The protestors warned to continue strike till the demands are settled. Besides the implementation of 6th Pay Commission reports the workers of Coal Mine Union are demanding enhancement of daily wagers rate and their regularization. Over 400 workers are on indefinite fast inside the mine. The SDM Nowshera along with SDPO and tehsildar visited kalakote and held talks with striking workers.
Addressing the demonstrators, Ramesh Chander said the Union will continue its struggle till it reaches to the logical conclusion. He accused the authorities of backtracking from promises made with the Union leadership earlier. Justifying the demands of the coal mine workers he said they were performing hazardous duties and need all incentives to be given to other State Government employees. He said any delay on the part of Government will complicate the situation as the Union is left with no alternative but to continue the strike. Chander accused the JK Minerals for their failure in pleading the case of coal mine workers before the Government. He said hundreds of millions are being spent on unproductive works in the state while no attention is paid to ameliorate the lot of coal mine workers. He in an appeal to all sister trade unions in the state sought their help and support for the fulfillment of genuine demands of coal mine workers. The Union chief also accused the Government of not bothering to call the coal mine workers for talks despite knowing fully about the call of indefinite strike given by the union. ``We are ready for negotiations provided there is an offer for the same from management’’, he added. Meanwhile the authorities in JK Minerals said that negotiations are on with striking workers. The workers are demanding the implementation of 6th Pay report and the decision has to take by the Government, said a senior officer of the organization. He said JK Minerals has also put the case before the Government with its recommendations but the final decision lies with them.
