| CM castigates doubts on the execution of land to tillers act | | | Srinagar, January 12 Chief Minister Gh Nabi Azad stung a surprise on the floor of state assembly in Jammu today, when he revealed that with the execution of land to the tillers act farmers grabbed a big chunk of state land during the reign of legendry Sheikh Mohd Abdullah, but did not get the ownership rights of the encroached land. Claiming that National Conference put on hold Roshni Act for the same reasons in the year 1997, Chief Minister while replying to a question during a debate on Governor's address to the joint session of state legislature said tillers had encroached the state land at several places, but did not get the ownership rights. Regretting that process of grabbing state land continued over the period of years, but land grabbers did not get the ownership rights, Azad lamented that the then Governor did not accord his ascent to Roshni act on April 28, 1997 during the reign of erstwhile Farooq Abdullah led National Conference Government. According to KNS Correspondent, Chief Minister went on record to say that the tillers having encroached the state land were bound to full cost as per the Roshni Act introduced by National Conference Government in the year 1997, but with the introduction of new Roshni Act such tillers will have to pay only 7% of the total cost of the encroached state land. Amid shouts by National Conference legislators against Chief Minister's remarks on Sheikh Mohd Abdullah's land to the tillers act, leader of the opposition Ab Rahim Rather while pointing towards Chief Minister said that he has been mislead by law department. Though Chief Minister was adamant on his stated position, but National Conference MLA's continued their shouts against the Chief Minister's remarks on land to the tillers act 1950 and Roshni Act 19997
