Dy CM assures alternate land for dumping of solid waste

JAMMU, Dec 16: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand accompanied by Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla and Minister of State for Revenue, Housing and Urban Development Department Nasir Aslam Wani today visited Kalari village in Kote Bhalwal and assessed about the
problems being faced by the people of the area due to dumping of solid waste on 156 kanals of land identified by JMC in 2003 for this purpose.
Interacted with the villagers, Tara Chand said instructions have already been given to DDC to identify alternate land for dumping of
solid waste adding that Government is making all out efforts to
redress their demands on priority and assured that alternate land for
dumping of solid waste would be located at the earliest. He informed
that solid waste treatment plant would also open employment avenues
for the locals of the area.
For early resolving the matter, the Deputy Chief Minister has said a 5-member committee of prominent persons of the area have already been
framed to locate alternate site for dumping of solid waste. Members of the committee apprised the Ministers that the surrounding areas of the
dumping site accommodate residential colonies, educational institutes.
They demanded relocation of land for dumping of solid waste.
Deputy Chief Minister asked the JDA and JMC officers to gear up for
retrieving of their respective departments land from the grabbers.
Bhalla directed the Revenue Officers to retrieve State land and EP
land with full force under Common Land Act 1956 and put sign boards
for the knowledge of general masses.
He appealed the people to lodge information regarding land grabbers
and their name on website [email protected] also so that action will be
initiated against them.
Later, Tara Chand, Raman Bhalla and Nasir Aslam Wani along with
officers also visited Barn village and inspected the 1000 kanal vacant
EP land.
