NC-Cong coordination committee meet put off | | | Early Times Report jammu, Dec 16: Meeting of the high powered coordination committee of National Conference (NC)-Congress coalition government has been postponed and would be now be held either on Monday or Tuesday. Highly placed sources said that meeting was postponed owing to non-availability of some members of this high powered committee. They said that most members who expressed unwillingness belonged to National Conference (NC). "The meeting had been called on a short-notice. Agenda was extensive and hence, it was decided to postpone the same," said one of the members of the high powered committee. It has been reliably learnt that the meet was put off more because of non-availability of NC president and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah. They added that Congress is in no mood to hold the meeting of coordination committee without the elder Abdullah. He maintained that the meeting has been called to deliberate over contentious issues which made headlines during the last six months. They added that Congress would first like to deliberate over the issue of revocation of AFSPA. Meeting of coordination committee besides discussing issue of AFSPA is also likely to take up long-pending issues of amending Panchayati Raj Act to further empower Sarpanchs and Panches. The meeting, though taking place in the back drop of fresh campaign in support of the congress chief minister for the next three years of rule in the state, is expected to iron out differences within the coalition partners. Senior congress leaders, who have been highlighting issue of lack of coordination among the coalition partners, have reportedly briefed the party chief so that the matter could be taken up for discussion with the National Conference leadership. From the Congress party Prof Soz is going to lead the discussion while the NC group would be led by NC president Farooq Abdullah and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather. Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and senior congress leader Mangat Ram Sharma, Ali Mohd Sagar from the NC and Choudhary Mohd Ramzan or Surjeet Singh Salathia are expected to attend the meeting of the coordination panel. |
