Kalakote Coal mine workers fast unto death enters 3rd day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 17: Chenab Hydro Power Projects Workers Union (CHPPWU) affiliated with CITU conveyed an emergency meeting here at Jammu to take stock of the fast unto death strike by the workers inside the Moghla coal mine at Kalakote. The meeting unanimously condemned the treatment meted to the coal mine workers by the management of J&K Minerals Limited. Javed Ahmad Zargar General Secretary CHPPWU and Working President CITU presided over the meeting and all the executive members of the CHPPWU attended the meeting in which threadbare discussions were held about the ongoing strike. Zargar while criticising the callous attitude of management and government said that the prices of essential commodities have increased manifold as a result of which the workers were leading a miserable life due to the growing inflation, adding that the helplessness and pathetic conditions have compelled the workers to intensify their struggle. The management has always turned a deaf ear towards their genuine demands and their concerns have ever been taken casually. He urged upon the state government and the management to initiate immediate negotiations with the protesting workers for their just and genuine demands, keeping in view the risk of their lives. He threatened that the onus shall lie on the management and the government if any harm is caused to the workers who have resorted to fast unto death inside the coal mine as there is every apprehension of fatalness due to failure of inspiration as a result of intoxication and lack of proper airing inside the coal mine. Others who spoke in the meeting included Abdul Subhan president ,Nasir Ali working president, Abdul Lateef Sr. vice president ,Nishat Qazi secretary of CHPPWU and Muzaffar Wani chairman CHPPWU Sawalakote Unit.
