Jammu, Dec 17: In the ongoing Weekend Theatre series, Rangshala Theatre Group of Societies came up with a novel sensitive theme of a subject that had Nazis reflection of the events.
Nirmal Verma’s solo play ''Dedh Inch Upar'' was the play enacted in the series that narrates the talks between an old man and a fictitious character while sitting in a pub in the night.
While the one act play was a narrative of the sequence of the events held during Nazis crackdown, it also takes along a sensibility of the investigations that relives a man off any suspicion whose wife was an underground worker.
The old man in the central character did not know whether his wife was alive or not because he had not witnessed her death or burial. Nor he knew that she was involved with a terrorist group. One day, police raids his house when he comes to know about his wife's terrorist link.
Cops realize that he was not involved. The man is now living with a cat that waits for him till he reaches home. At the end, the character states that he feels no difference between the cat and the women, because both are of similar nature.
In the play, its only character Himanshu Darshan beautifully enacts the talks between the fictitious character and the old man, who narrates the story of his life and wife, who has left him.
Over the years Himanshu Darshan through his acting prowess has proved beyond any iota of doubt that he has a matchless and unique element of a theatre perfectionist imbibed in him.
Umesh Singh, the senior most director and president Rangshala who directed the play produced a marvellous ambience of the theatrical movement by raising the graph of Ded Inch Upar to ultra mundane heights.
Senior Mimicry/Comedian artist of the state Shishupal Khajuria , Chief Guest on the occasion while speaking praised the efforts of Rangshala for exercising its flavor for theatre towards meaningful artistic works which have quality control in all aspects, be it acting direction or script choosing.
Others who helped in staging today’s performance were Costumes designed by Sunita K. Thakur, Make-up Siddharth Singh, Music conceived by Rakesh K. Mayus, Set & Property by Himanshu Darshan, Production Manager Nikhil Singh, Light & Sound by Siddharth Singh, Photography by Naveen Soodan and Assistant Director of the play was Gautam Singh.
