| All cities and towns to be metered by August 2007: Jora | | | Srinagar, Jan 12 To curb the menace of power theft in the state the government of Jammu and Kashmir is installing Electricity meters in all big cities and towns by August 2007. This was stated by the Minister for Power Development, Mr. Nowang Rigzin Jora while addressing a jam-packed press conference here today. Mr. Jora sought people’s co-operation in governments’ endeavor to check the power pilferage. He said that Power Development department is trying its best to provide round the clock electricity to metered areas but the power theft is hampering the aim. The Minister said that the department has formulated the load shedding schedule, which will make power supply equally available to all regions and areas of the state. Mr. Jora revealed that the state expends Rs. 7.50 crore daily on electricity while returns are very low. He said that due to concerted efforts of the government additional 100 MWs are being provided to valley currently. Chief Engineer, M&RE, Mr. Nisar Hussain, Chief Engineer, Systems and operations, Mr. Abdul Rashid, all Superintending Engineers and other senior officers of Power Development department were present on the occasion. |
