Cong leaders blame Omar for delaying cabinet reshuffle
12/19/2011 10:35:37 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, December 19 Senior Congress leaders have blamed Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, for deliberately delaying cabinet reshuffle and expansion. In support of their contention they say that since Omar Abdullah was fearing trouble within the ruling National Conference if he did not give representation to Doda-Kishtwar and Kupwara districts in the council of ministers he has tried to ignore the demand for expansion and reshuffle.

A senior Congress leader said that another reason for Omar Abdullah for delaying cabinet reshuffle was his apprehensions that the Congress high command may drop some nonperforming congress ministers from the council of ministers. These nonperforming Congress ministers have been vocal supporters of Omar Abdullah. A couple of them have been seen demonstrating more loyalty for Omar that the PCC Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz.

The party leaders said that the plan of the Chief Minister to celebrate New year away from his home state was another move on his part to keep the cabinet reshuffle and expansion under carpet.

Another congress leader said that there were three vacancies in the council of ministers. He said that against the limit of 25 members of the council of ministers there were only 22 which meant three seats have to be filled. But in case the Chief Minister spent over three weeks abroad the state would be preparing for the budget session of the Assembly which was to be followed by the civic elections leaving no scope for cabinet reshuffle and expansion.

He also blamed the Congress high command for sleeping over the matter when the most backward areas, Doda, Kishtwar and Kupwara, needed representation in the council of ministers in order to ensure proper development of these districts.

He said since the since the Congress high command would be free from the burden of adopting the Lokpal bill within next four days it should set the stage for cabinet reshuffle and expansion in Jammu and Kashmir.
