Prevent Zorawar Singh Auditorium from becoming another Abhinav Theatre
12/19/2011 10:36:03 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, December 19: With large number of writers, artists and cultural activists cursing their fate for not able to convince the state government authorities to urgently carry out renovation work inside Abhinav theatre complex one more state of the art auditorium complex inside Jammu University has become victim of neglect on account of over exploitation of its resources.

If corrective measures are not taken in time the Zorawar Singh Auditorium may soon join the long list of hall of shame. Wet patches, worn out paint, out of order seats and poor sound system are handful of problems which organisers have already started pointing out to the care takers of the auditorium to rectify immediately in order to save the prestige of the university and the state govt authorities.

In the absence of availability of Abhinav theatre with fully equipped facilities more and more event managers are opting for Zorawar Singh auditorium to hold official functions and the over exploitation of the hall in short span has started showing its impact. The poor quality of wall paint and leakage in the roof is all visible on the wet walls of the auditorium. At many places the white paint has given way to the worn out patches and attract the attention of the naked eye even in pitch dark conditions.

Recently when the auditorium hosted Jashan-e-Faiz to commemorate 100th birth anniversary of legendary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz many local guests in the audience felt bad about the maintenance of the Zorawar Singh auditorium.

Ironically, the state govt authorities prefer the auditorium over any other venue in the city of temples but when it comes to providing maintenance funds for the upkeep and renovation of the auditorium the departments chose to look other way and wash off their hands by saying that they had booked the auditorium for their official function only and are not supposed to provide extra funds from their allotted budget for the renovation of the auditorium.

The Jammu university authorities in private complain in the absence of Abhinav theatre the Zorawar Singh Auditorium is hosting almost all the official functions /meetings/seminars convened by the state govt departments. The over exploitation of the hall has led to its wear and tear, the official sources in the Jammu university said adding that a proposal to renovate the hall is in the pipeline.
