57th National School Games Cricket U-19 Girls -------------------------------------------------- | Delhi faces Maharashtra in summit clash today | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 19: The formidable sides of Delhi and Maharashtra, who were placed in same group-D along with the hosts Jammu and Kashmir and IPSC, have qualified for the finals by beating their respective rivals and shall meet each other in the title clash at MA Stadium, here tomorrow.
In the first semi-final played at MA Stadium, Maharashtra girls thrashed Chhattisgarh easily by 10 wickets in a one-sided affair.
Earlier, Maharashtra skipper Sarika Koli won the toss and as per their usual trend so for in the tournament, elected to field first and managed to restrict Chhattisgarh to a total of 110 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 25 overs.
Pandey sisters Shivi and Yashi made a decent opening wicket partnership of 69 runs. Shivi scored 30 runs off 28 balls including four delectable boundaries, while Yashi contributed 26 off 38 balls with the help of three crispy fours. Nikita Solanki was the wrecker-in-chief for Maharashtra, who took four important wickets in her four overs by conceding just four runs, while Mukta Magray claimed one.
Maharashtra, in reply, rode on a splendid display of batting skills by the opening pair of Sarika Koli and Himali to take their side to home in the 19th over, without losing any wicket, thus won the match by 10 wickets. Sarika Koli remained unbeaten on 62 runs including 10 superb boundaries, while Himali contributed 36 runs with two boundaries. Sarika, in particular sent the rival bowlers on a leather-hunt and hit the ball with utmost timing, fluid grace and utter-brilliance to score the runs in just 55 balls. For Chhattisgarh, none of the bowlers succeeded in taking any wicket, though Yashi Pandey bowled with nagging line and teasing length to make both the batswomen feel uncomfortable at times. Sarika Koli was adjudged woman of the match for her fabulous batting display.
In the second semi-final at University of Jammu grounds, Delhi trounced Haryana by a big margin of 52 runs.
Batting first, Delhi sailed on a swashbuckling knock of unbeaten 71 runs by consistent Priya Punia and scored a decent total of 153 runs in the allotted 25 overs, losing two wickets in the process. She struck seven fours in her brilliant knock. Her opening partner, Kajol Bhatia also scored a half-century (50) with the help of five boundaries. Vandhana chipped in with 15 runs. Preeti claimed one wicket for Haryana.
Chasing a huge target of 154 runs, Haryana lost wickets at regular intervals and managed to score 101 runs in 25 overs, thus lost the match by 52 runs. Rajvanti (35) and Preeti Sharma (26) were the main contributors. Sadvi scalped three wickets for Delhi, while Vandhana claimed one. Priya Punia of Delhi was adjudged woman of the match for a superb knock of 71 runs. Meanwhile, in the hardliner match, Chattisgarh defeated Haryana to clinch the third place. Chhattisgarh made 119, while in reply Haryana collapsed at 48 runs. Dev Kumari of Chhattisgarh was adjudged woman of the match for her all-round display. As per the organizers, the concluding function of this tournament shall be held at 12.30 pm at MA Stadium here tomorrow wherein Governor, NN Vohra has consented to be the chief guest.
