| PDP making inroads in Jammu entering strong bastions of BJP, Congress | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 19: With Jammu parties ignoring the issues of public importance the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is making in roads in the strong bastions of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other political parties having a sway in the region.
The public response to PDP meetings in Jammu for last one month has rocked the Jammu parties and leaders who were claiming to be the sole custodians of Jammu's politics. With BJP a divided lot already having expelled seven of its MLAs the Party is fighting back to wall to rejuvenate it and rebuilt its public image in the region.
However so far the Party is in disarray and its leadership in great confusion. The Congress which is sharing power with National Conference (NC) is also facing many allegations for its failure to come up to the expectations of the masses in fulfilling the promises made by the Party in last Assembly elections. Its ministers are facing charges of ignoring the public totally.
The failure of Congress Party to put forth its demand for an alternative Chief Minister and especially one from Jammu region as was demanded during the coalition regime of Mufti Mohammed Sayed has also added to the public resentment to a great extent. The party's failure to watch the interests of Jammuites in Government in seeking equitable developmental share for the region is also viewed one of the greatest drawbacks with its leadership.
According to sources to take the advantage of the weaknesses of both Congress , BJP as well as national importance. Holding of public meetings and demonstrations by PDP in Kacchi Chawni area, Shakti Nagar and outskirts of Jammu are seen as a part of this strategy.
The former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed who addressed maximum rallies in Jammu during past few weeks has chosen to tread cautiously. To woo the people and seek their support Mufti has tried to make the NC the main target of its attack while without naming BJP and Congress for their failure in countering the NC.
Mufti this way is trying to damage NC its main political rival in the state by asking the people to reject its leadership for its poor performance and mis governance. But at the same time he projects the Jammu PDP and its leaders as an alternative to BJP and Congress in the region like Kashmir where the Party has eroded the strong bastions of NC after its formation.
Knowing fully that NC is his main rival Sayeed is time and again questioning its leadership and their policies. He while raising the issue of Haji Yousf's killing during his last public meetings in Jammu has raised a single question that how a Party which bribes its own leaders can control corruption.
This argument of Sayed has been well taken by public in Jammu as well while the BJP and NPP could not raise this so forcefully. The Congress is bound to maintain silence over the issue as it will strain further the relations between two collation partners which according to sources Party High Command does not want for the time being. |
