BOSE causes a stir in PHQ | Depicts police man as Zalim | | Early Times Report jammu, Dec 19: The police have filed a case against Board of School Education (BOSE) for portraying a police man in `bad taste'. An FIR No 317 of 2011 under sections 124 A, 153 A, 120 B, 502 and 504 Ranbir Penal |Code (RPC) has been filed. The BOSE has come out with an Urdu Book for Ist standard which has created a stir in the police department. In the `controversial' book, the Urdu Alphabet (ZOAI) stands for Zalim (tyrant). The page carries a sketch of a police man. The message has been conveyed clearly, said a police officer preferring anonymity. Angered by the `uncalled for' depiction of police men in bad taste, the police registered the case in Police Station Parimpora. However, no arrests have been affected for the time being. Pertinent to mention Section 153 A RPC is a special offense punishable with imprisonment that may extend ten years. The book has hit the stands at a time when police are holding public meetings (Melas) to improve their image. The police-public relations deteriorated considerably during the last year's agitation that left 120 youths dead. The police men were told to vacate rented accommodation in localities around police Control room (PCR). Some police men were also manhandled by angry protesters. As a remedial measure, the DGP held Public Melas in various localities. The process is still going on. The `controversial' book is seen as a major setback to DGP's efforts. The book is meant for kids who have a nascent mind. Sociologists believe that it can have a long lasting impression on their minds. The BOSE books are set by a panel comprising Director Academic, Joint Secretary Publications and experts from Schools and colleges. According to legal experts, the responsibility lies mainly on the publisher. |
