APHCC hails Bhalla, Chib for assuring passage of | Temple Bill and probe in temple land encroachments | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 20: The All Party Hindu Coordination Committee (APHCC) has hailed the statements of Raman Bhalla and RS Chib assuring the passage of Temples and Shrines Bill very soon and also initiating probe into the multicrore temple and shrines land scandals and encroachments going on in the state. Welcoming the statements of both the ministers during a function here today, the APHCC leaders have said that the stand of ministers has reassured the Hindu community and the APHCC that their 10-day long indefinite hunger strike in October did not go waste and hoped that the ministers would keep their word and work for bringing an effective temples and shrines Bill, as well as including all the temples, shrines, holy springs and holy hill locks in J&K under one board besides launching a full-fledged probe into land and property encroachments of Hindu shrines in J&K. In a statement issued here APHCC leader Vinod Pandit, who had gone for indefinite hunger strike in support of the demand of single Hindu Temple and Shrine Board for J&K in October and had broken his fast after RS Chib assured that their demands would be raised before the higher authorities of the government said that it was a welcome statement from both the ministers adding they must fulfil their promises made today before a large number of people assuring the ministers that entire Hindu Samaj of Jammu and Kashmir will back them in this endeavour. Vinod said that certain organisations have turned the temples into their private fiefdom and indulged in large scale leasing, selling and other bungling under the garb of managing the temples adding government must wrest the control of all such temples from these vested interest groups and bring them under one board to convert the huge donations received from the temples into such assets which benefit the whole society and not a few individuals or organisations. He said that successful running of Vaishnodevi Shrine Board , Shahdra Sharief Board etc which set up universities and other beneficial projects using the donations which in turn not only help the society for the betterment of the society but also reduces the burden from the government exchequer were the fine examples to be followed. Hailing the statements of the ministers APHCC’s senior core Group member King C Bharati said that while Temples and Shrines Bill pending in the State assembly should be passed within coming session of the State Assembly the government should seriously work for the constitution of a Hindu Temples and Shrines Board for J&K under which all the existing boards, trusts etc should be brought into so that huge wealth of temples and shrines of J&K is saved from a few vested interests and used for the betterment of Hindu community. Bharati reminded Chib of his assurance that he would pave way for the initiation of talks between the APHCC core group and the government over the issue adding a Board on the pattern of Wakf Board and Gurudwara Prabandhak Board was the best alternative to save huge temple wealth from going down the drain. He said that both the ministers would see entire Hindu community as well as other communities backing this initiative if they take the first step as APHCC has already taken theirs by initiating ten-day long hunger strike. He asked all the stake holders to back the ministers in their initiative and plain speaking which was first of its kind since long adding both these ministers have the ability to lead in this matter.
