Leisure water sports being introduced in Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 20 :-The state Department of Tourism has decided to intrduce leisure water sports in Jammu for the entertainment of local people and pilgrims. Official sources said that the Tourism Department has plans of inviting reputed companies and experts to make suitable and required arrangements for starting leisure water sports which includes paddle boating,rowing,kayaking and canoeing and motor boating. The Department has decided to introduce leisure water sports at Baglihar water reservoir,Pul-Doda and Ranjit Sagar Dam.This will help the Department to add new spots for excursionists and holidaymakers from within the state and from various areas of the country. Department sources said that if the experiment proved successful leisure water sports could be introduced in selected place in river Chenab. They said that in Kashmir too new schemes were to be started for promoting water rafting on the Indus river and its tributaries and water skiing in the Dal and the Nigin Lakes.Under the project more boats would be made available for the tourists during the next summer season. The sources said that as far was leisure water sports are concerned arrangements were being made to start the project from March next.Efforts would be made to attract pilgrims to Vaishnov Devi to these sites for enjoying leisure water sports. In addition to this more facilities were being provided to those visiting Gulmarg for skiing,skating and rides on cable car and gondolas.If weather permitted period for the winter sports in Gulmarg could be extended upto the first week of February
