| Man hanged to death; trooper injured | | Arms, explosives recovered | | Srinagar, Mar 13: Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be militants, today hanged a man to death after abducting him while as a trooper was injured in a shootout in Handwara.
According to sources, unidentified gunmen, suspected to be militants, hanged one Imtiyaz Ahmed Bhat, son of late Abdul Ahad of Ganderbal to death after he was abducted on March 11.
Militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen has reportedly owned the responsibility of killing alleging that Imtiyaz was an Army informer. It’s worth mentioning here that Imtiyaz’s father Abdul Ahad, was killed in a similar way by suspected militants last year.
Militants ambushed a search party of 30 RR near Kralgund Handwara injuring a trooper, sources said. A cordon was laid around the area and searches were conducted to nab the suspected attackers. However, no arrests were reported.
Meanwhile, huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives was recovered by police and Army in a joint search operation in Kangan, sources claimed.
Giving details of the recoveries, source said that an IED weighing 30 Kgs, two rocket launcher shells, seven grenades, one plastic IED, one UBGL round and four junctions of IED were recovered from a militant hideout in Bakhoon village of Kangan. However, no arrests were made.
