Historic decision by JK cabinet: HWO

Humanity Welfare Organization (HWO) HELPline Bijbehara today expect that JK Disability Act 1998 will be replaced and harmonized with UN-Convention for the Rights of persons with Disabilities, so that Education Employment, Accessibility, independent living in the community and civil political Rights will be provided to the persons with disabilities so that actual rehabilitation of persons with disabilities is assured.

Humanity Welfare Organization HELPline Bijbehara organized an extraordinary meeting under the chairmanship of Javed Ahmad Tak. Apart from office bearers the meeting was attended by hundreds of educated severe disable people, said in a statement.

The meeting discussed Historic Decision by the Cabinet of Jammu and Kashmir that approved up-dation/ revision of list of posts against which persons with disabilities can be appointed under J&K Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act. Following the revision of list, benefits of JE and teachers posts would be available to the disabled persons. Earlier the post of teacher and Junior Engineer was not identified for the severe disable people facing disabilities in either both upper limbs or both lower limbs.


According to a statement that after a long battle for seeking Rights and sensitization drives by Humanity Welfare Organization HELPline Bijbehara. Social Welfare Department took the matter to the cabinet and the reservation was extended to severe disable people also. Humanity welfare Organization extend thanks to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Minister for Social Welfare Sakina IToo, additional Secretary to Govt. Dr. Ghulam Nabi Itoo Principal secretary GAD, Mohammad Syed Khan and Director Social Welfare Hilal Ahmad Parray for their special efforts for amendment in Govt order 62-SW of 2001. Special regards were extended to Minister for Social Welfare, Miss Sakina Itoo, who had recently promised of amending the government Order. With her keen interest and personal intervention in the matter, the cabinet approved the amendments within 15 days.
HELPline Bijbehara expects SSRB will take immediate measures to implement the decision soon.
