v Oh, it was an extreme form of hatred for Congress ministers | Lawyers' Strike | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 20: As expected, Jammu observed a massive bandh today, thus upsetting the NC-Congress coalition government's applecart. The bandh was destined to be massive and spectacular and it happened much to the chagrin of those at the helm of affairs, who want to force down the throat of Jammu a controversial decision on transfer of registration powers to the executive officials. The bandh must make the authorities, especially the Jammu-based ministers, sit up and find where have they gone wrong and why so much anger against them? Such an exercise on the part has become imperative considering the fact that the anger against and contempt for them is of an extreme nature. The protesting lawyers and their ardent supporters drawn from all walks of life did not attack the NC leaders and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah so much. They roundly condemned the Jammu-based ministers belonging to Congress using all kinds of invectives and epithets against each one of them. They held them squarely responsible for the said decision, saying they put their signature on the cabinet decision. They raised such slogans as "Jammu ke Jaichands", "Jammu ke Gaddar", Jammu Ke Dalal", "land mafia", “land grabbers", "Kashmirion ke Gulam", "sellers of Jammu", "looters" and so on. They did not spare any of these ministers. The tone of the protesting lawyers was threatening. So much so they warned these Congress ministers to reform themselves failing which they would find no place in Jammu to hide. They pooh-poohed the state government's appeal to defer the bandh and warned the Congress ministers that they would go to any extent in the event of their demand was not conceded. They did denounce the Chief Minister's Jammu-based political Advisor, but the attack on him was not that sharp. Their argument was that they are not afraid of the Kashmiri leaders, they are angry with the Jammu-based Congress ministers because they have allowed the Kashmir-centric NC to exercise unbridled powers and that they have joined hands with the NC leadership in order to give "legal sanctity to their illegal transactions concerning land". The Jammu-based Congress ministers would do well to take cognizance of the fast-growing anger against them and the Congress party. The best course for them would be to dissociate themselves from the controversial decision and assert in order to defend and promote the cause of the people of Jammu province. They cannot go on like this anymore. The situation has changed and changed to the extent that anything can happen anytime. They are the main target of the lawyers and their supporters whose number is swelling by the day. |
