Signals revival of cultural activities | Jora presents state art awards | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 21: At an impressive function held at Kala Kendra here on Wednesday minister for tourism and culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora gave away the prestigious state art awards to winners of 46th and 47th art exhibition. Those who got the coveted prize of Rs 51,000/- for the 46th art exhibition included Masood Tabish Naqshbandi in painting category and Chander Prakash for sculpting. For the 47th art exhibition the first prize of Rs 51,000/- went to Mohammed Aslam Naqshbandi for painting while Sukhjeet Singh Kukkal got an equal prize for sculpting. Besides the main prize of Rs 51,000/-, consolation prizes of Rs 10,000/- were also given to Renu Bala, Narinder Kumar Bhagat, Moonis Shah and Ashish Raina. Seventeen other awards carrying a cash prize of Rs 1000/- each were also presented by the minister among the winners. Speaking on the occasion Jora said that the state has rich talent and need of the hour is to groom it. Lauding the work of Academy of Art, Culture and Languages the minister said that the state was lucky to have an institution like the Academy, which has been and would groom artistic talent in whatever capacity it can. Describing Jammu and Kashmir as a centre of creativity Jora said that there was no dearth of talent in the state and the need of the hour is to give it further fillip. He impressed upon the artistic fraternity that it should produce more and more original works of art so that indigenous talent of our people could be highlighted at the national level through workshops and seminars. Congratulating the Academy officers for smooth conduct of the event the minister said that he was glad to observe that the Academy had talented manpower. Earlier welcoming the guests, commissioner secretary, tourism and culture, Atal Dulloo said that the award function is part of a larger bouquet of cultural activities, which the Academy had in store in the months ahead. Giving details Dulloo said that from January 2012 onwards the Academy is planning to hold three national artists’ camps at places like Srinagar, Jammu and Leh respectively. Before the formal start of the award presentation ceremony the minister also inaugurated a state level art exhibition. Organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages the exhibition would remain open till the 27th of this month. The programme proceedings were conducted by junior staff artist, Anil Tickoo while additional secretary, Cultural Academy, Jammu, Savita Bakshi presented the vote of thanks.
