Choice between withdrawal of order and withdrawal of support to NC | Jammu Registers Anger Against Congress | | Neha JAMMU, Dec 21: Are the people of Jammu province preparing themselves for another full-scale confrontation with those who sought and got their votes and then bartered their interests to keep the Kashmiri leadership pleased and fulfill their personal ambitions? Is the situation in the Jammu province ripe to replicate 2008 and bring down what the people generally term as the "anti-Jammu" and "anti-democratic" state government? Who is the immediate target of the people of Jammu province? Is it the Valley-based, Kashmir-centric, pro-semi-independence and essentially communal National Conference or is it the so-called Indian National Congress of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi? Who are the ministers who the people of Jammu province hold responsible for what they describe as their all-round degeneration, neglect, marginalization and miseries and for murdering democracy in Jammu province? What happened across the Jammu province yesterday at the behest of the striking lawyers and the social, political, trade, industry and transport organizations does suggest that the badly humbled and let down people of this region are fully prepared to take on those who have defeated them and their cause and that they are fed up with their so-called representatives in the assembly. The most striking feature of the yesterday's massive and peaceful shutdown across the Jammu province was the scathing attack on the Congress party in general and the Congress ministers in particular. Terming them as "Jammu ke gaddar", "Jammu ke Dalal", "Jammu kaa gand" (filth), "land grabbers" and "land mafia", the lawyers and the people, cutting across party lines, held them squarely responsible for the miserable plight of the Jammu province and added that "it was the Congress ministers, and not the National Conference ministers, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who have sold Jammu province to the Kashmiri leadership" and "have joined hands with those who have grabbed and looted thousands and thousands of kanals of state land, including forest land, in order to convert their illegal land transactions into legal transactions through the pliable and amenable revenue officials". They made these accusations while commenting on the fundamental reason behind the decision of the state government to discard the nearly 90-year-old practice and transfer registration powers from the designated courts to the revenue officials. Everyone sung the same tune; everyone jeered at and ridiculed and criticized these Congress ministers. Some of them also criticized the Congress party as a whole and New Delhi, saying "they are the mothers of all ills facing the people of Jammu province". The upshot of the argument of the protesting lawyers and the people who joined the protest on their own was that the "Jammu's night of discontent and despair would draw to its close only after the Congress and New Delhi are comprehensively defeated". They said: "They do not care for the National Conference; they do not recognize this Kashmir-based party; they have never expected justice and fair-play from any of the Kashmir-based parties; their grievance and complaint is against the Congress, the Congress ministers and New Delhi since they were, and are, at the back and call of the Kashmiri leadership". This is the situation. The Congress party in general and the Jammu-based Congress ministers must see writing on the wall. There are only two options available to them. Either they should withdraw the order on transfer of registration powers or they should withdraw support to the National Conference. In other words, they have a choice between withdrawal of the controversial order and withdrawal of support to the National Conference. Not to exercise any of these two choices or to continue to ignore the Jammu's mood would simply mean their political demise. Let's wait and see what they finally do to conciliate the angry people of Jammu province. |
