Of Ansari's wishful thinking and Padgoanker's helplessness | PM did not invite separatists for talks | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 21: The year 2011 shall be remembered for its `peaceful' summer. It shall also be remembered for the heat, former Hurriyat chairman, Moulana Abbas Ansari generated by meeting New Delhi's interlocutors on Jammu Kashmir at his residence. The Shia clerick's Hurriyat membership was suspended for several months. Immediately after his meeting with Padgoanker, he said that Kashmiri separatist leaders would be invited by the Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, for talks soon. "I was recently told by interlocutors that they would arrange my meeting with the Prime Minister of India. But I categorically told them that the invitation should go to the Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq," he told a local news agency. Ansari claimed that senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister of India, LK Advani, 'will also attend the meeting where Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh will talk to separatists.' "I stand for the meaningful dialogue and I believe that it is the only way forward," he said and added that neither New Delhi nor Islamabad can thrust any decision which won't be acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Ansari waited for Prime Minister's invite for eight months. However, the prime Minister seems to have some important issues (other than Kashmir) on mind. No invitation seems forthcoming at least for the time being. Ansari must have received the shock of his life the day when the Chief Interlocutor sought former chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayed's intervention for consideration of his report by New Delhi. A harsh reality dawned on Ansari. New Delhi's Interlocutors need the services of an Interlocutor to approach the people who matter in this country. |
