Dhruv, Hilal guide Simula XI to Champions Trophy final

JAMMU, Dec 21: Riding on a power-packed knock of 74 runs by Dhruv Mahajan and all-round performance from Hilal Rather, Simula XI today thrashed Ishar XI by 52 runs to qualify for the finals of 5th Champions Trophy Twenty20 Cricket Tournamnt at MA Stadium, here.

Now, Simula XI shall lock horns against Kashyap Sports Club in the final tomorrow.

Earlier, batting first, Simula XI piled up a decent total of 183 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing five wickets in the process. Dhruv Mahajan sent the Ishar XI bowlers on a leather-hunt and smashed quick-fire 44-ball 74 runs, with the help of five fours and one six.

Hilal Rather contributed 32 runs in 41 balls including three boundaries and a huge six, while Hardeep Singh and Sameer Khajuria chipped in with 20 and 13 runs respectively. For Ishar XI, Saleem took two wickets, while Pavit Singh and Arif claimed one wicket each.

In reply, Ishar XI managed to score 131 runs in the allotted overs, thus lost the match by a huge margin of 52 runs. Sourav Chopra was the top scorer with 40 runs, which included four boundaries, while Arshad contributed 31 and Salim 17 runs to the total. For Simula XI, Hilal Rather and Hardeep Singh took 2 wickets each, while Ram Dayal claimed one wicket.

For his all-round performance, Hilal Rather was adjudged man of the match. Today’s semifinal was officiated by JD Singh and Vijay as umpires, while Yogesh Sharma was scorer.

This tournament is being organised by Simula Sports Club, under the supervision of Hilal Rather, chairman organizing committee, Rajesh Gill, vice-chairman, Rajesh Dhar, convener technical committee and Shashi Pal, organizing secretary.

Now, in the title-clash, Simula XI will take on Kashyap Sports Club and the match shall begin at 11 am. Commissioner Secretary Home, BR Sharma has consented to be the chief guest on the valedictory function.
