| BJP Kisan Morcha demands formula for crop pricing in India | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 22 The BJP Kisan Morcha today demanded a formula for crop pricing and formulation of pricing procedure in order to provide remunerative prices to farmers for their produce.
"We demand formula for crop pricing and formulation of pricing procedure for the farming sector in order to do justice with the farmers of the country", National Vice President of BJP Kisan Morcha, Suresh Chandel told reporters here today.
He said that farmers may be paid profitable price for all the crops and the Swaminathan Commission on farm sector should be implemented to give 50 per cent profit on costs of the crops to the farmers.
Criticising the Congress-led UPA government for its farm policy, he said that the policy has pushed the farmers to the wall thereby putting them on the virtual starvation.
Discriminatory economic policies have placed farmers on the last end of the income pyramid and their prosperity has gone to zero level, he said adding that their tolerance has fizzled out resulting in suicides in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Orissa.
During last more than a year, over 1,000 farmers have been forced to commit suicides, Chandel said adding that these deaths have resulted due to their poor economic output generated from their agriculture activities.
Farmners should be given loan at the rate of 1 per cent interest for one year, he said adding the farm income insurance scheme should be implemented for the protection of the economy of farmers.
In the event calamity compensation equal to the price of crop should be given, he said adding that separate agriculture budget should be passed as is being done in Karnataka.
