| Pesticide unit holders voluntarily suspend operation in Samba | | | JAMMU JAN-12 Pesticide Unit holders have voluntarily offered to temporarily suspend the operation of all their units located in Samba to enable State Pollution Control Board to conduct rapid Environmental Impact Assessment and to ascertain the actual reasons behind the damage to the crops in village Tanda of Vijaypur. On the advice of President Chamber of Commerce Ram Sahai, chairman Industrial Association Samba and members of J&K Pesticides Association conveyed this decision of the unit holders to Chairman PCB at a meeting held here today. In a hand out, Anil Gupta Secretary Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that Pesticides Association has decided to give full support to the PCB and the state government to determine the reasons for the crop damages and maintained that presence of these units have caused no adverse effects in and around the SIDCO complex Samba. He said the Association strongly feels that there is no co-relation between the damages to crops as well as the environment and manufacturing activity of pesticides in Samba .He said the Board has also decided to incorporate two members of the Pesticides Association for undertaking environmental impact assessment. It may be recalled that PCB had recently ordered closure of the some of the units especially the Pesticides units operating in Industrial Estates Samba for causing pollution and violating the norms laid down in the Pollution Control Act and the guidelines.
