What has Omar Govt achieved by the way? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 22: At the end of a year, the government spends quite some money to highlight its achievements. The advertisement published in some local dailies tells a lot about the achievements of the Omar led government. It informs the people about their right to service. Has the government nothing else to pride itself on? The said advertisement pertains to issue of ration cards and connected issues like transfer from one ration depot to other and inclusion of a new born. Well these are mundane issues and every government is under an obligation to perform this duty without delay. It cannot be projected as an achievement. In the coming days the government may boast of Panchayat elections and empowerment of the Panchayats. The success of this much hyped exercise can be gauged from the recent resignation of seven Panches and Sarpanches of Ganderbal. The reports from other areas have a similar story to tell. Reports of protest demonstrations by newly elected Panches and Sarpanches pour in almost daily. Omar had to give up his autonomy and AFSPA revocation demand perhaps in lieu of a promise of three year extension from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi recently. Omar may govern the state for three more years but he has to go for cabinet reshuffle. And last but not the least, Omar was told to refrain from using force against scribes by the Press Council of India Chairman. In his letter, the chairman expressed dismay over what he called use of force against journalists while performing professional duties. This should not be treated as an ordinary letter. It reflects government's failure to allow fourth estate to flourish. |
