Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 22: Intensifying the ongoing agitation, the lawyers today led by BS Slathia, President Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) staged a massive protest-Dharna outside the residence of the Dy Chief Minister registering their protest against the government decision of transferring powers of registration of documents to Revenue department.
The protesting lawyers were demanding an immediate roll-back of the proposed move of the govt and warned the govt of a mass upsurge in case the govt fails to notice the sentiments of the general masses in time. The rally was moving in a peaceful manner but was confronted by a strong contingent of police force which tried to block the peaceful rally of the lawyers at the Bakshi Nagar crossing.
While addressing BS Slathia, President Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) urged the Deputy Chief Minister to rise to the occasion given the fact that in the absence of the Chief Minister from the State who has gone abroad, it is the Deputy Chief Minister who is acting as Chief Minister.
Salathia further urged the Deputy Chief Minister to positively respond to the aspirations of the lawyers fraternity across the State in particular and the public in general and withdraw the present move to assure the good-governance to common masses, for, divesting the Judicial Officers from the powers of registration has been established beyond doubt by the support received by the Bar Association Jammu that the move of the government is aimed at helping the land-mafia in illegally depriving the innocent people of their lands/properties owned/possessed by them in connivance with the revenue authorities.
Meanwhile he also expressed his gratitude to the support extended to the ongoing agitation by MLA Bhaderwah Muhammad Sharief Niaz and senior Congress Leader from Vijaypur and former Minister Manjeet Singh.
Usman Salaria, Vice-President of the Bar Association in his address cautioned the government against the move and asked state government to realize that the complete peaceful Bandh should be an eye-opener for the government and it should act before the situation gets beyond control.
The protesters made it emphatically clear to the govt that the Bar Association Jammu has initiated the present agitation for the interests of the common masses and it will not settle for anything less than an absolute protection of the common masses against being thrown into a corrupt system by the present regime.
Meanwhile some of the protestors alleged that some Congress leaders are reportedly involved in corruption and further demanded an independent inquiry against the land mentioning the alleged encroachment of land made by Minister for PHE and Irrigation and his daughters in both regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
