Traffic Insp demoted, SI among five others penalized for corruption | | | Sumit Sharma Jammu, Dec 24 Seven police officers including a lady inspector, who became the first victims of the high tech surveillance cameras installed by police at different locations in the city, have been penalized severely including the denial of time bound promotions and other monetary benefits. Sources in the Police said that the lady officer Inspector identified as Inspector Anita Chopra also Bunty Chopra, posted as DTI in traffic police who along with her team of six police officers was put under suspension after surveillance cameras installed in the city caught them accepting graft from the violators has been demoted to one rank from her present rank besides, increments of the rest of the officers were also forfeited for three years. Sources further said that as per order from Police Headquarters Inspector Anita Chopra is to remain Sub Inspector for one year while the increments of the all penalized police officers including lady Inspector and Sub Inspector Shamim were forfeited for three years which means that they do not get promotions for the upcoming ten years. Besides Inspector and Sub Inspector others who are facing penalty for alleged corruption charges included have been identified as constables Kuldeep Kumar, Rayees, Iffar, Bashir and Tarlochan Singh who were deputed with Anita Chopra and Shamim. "All officers facing penalty joined back to traffic wing of Jammu and Kashmir police today unceremoniously, sources said. They added said that while Anita Chopra now SI (Sub Inspector) soon after her joining went on leave due to her father's illness, the rest of the police officers have resumed their duties in different locations of Jammu city with cold steps. The deterrence was taken after they were watched in Police Control Room Jammu, letting the traffic violators off after accepting graft from them, unaware of the fact that their misdoings were recorded in Compact Disc of the CCTVs installed at some vital installations and main squares as a part of enhanced security grid. Though, some police officers, earlier, were trying to save them from facing the axe but it was only after the incident was reported in media that senior police officer gave green light to DIG Traffic Danish Rana to hold enquiry into the matter. It was on the direction of DIG then SP Traffic Zahid Manhas put the officers in question under suspension. Later the inquiry was entrusted on SSP Varinder Kumar who was SSP Traffic (Rural) by PHQ who after detailed investigation into the complaints of corruption and on the basis of CCTV recordings, submitted the report to Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Danish Rana and the same inquiry report to submitted to PHQ through Inspector General of Police Traffic Hemant Kumar Lohia. Sources said that SSP Varinder Kumar, presently posted as SSP Traffic National Highway, prepared the inquiry report and submitted the same to DIG Traffic. |
