Kishtwar, Dec 24: As the deadline of January 5, 2012 is coming closer and closer, the Congress party leadership in Jammu and Kashmir starts mounting more pressure on the party High Command over the issue of rotational Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah completes its three year tenure as Chief Minister in office on January 5.
In a significant development over the row of rotational Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir between the state Congress leadership and central leadership, 7 Congress party MLA/MLC's including 5 ministers in Omar Abdullah cabinet have reportedly sent their voluntary resignation to the party high command to exert pressure on them over the issue of rotational Chief Minister. According to well placed sources within the Congress party, All the 7 MLA/MLC's abruptly told the party High Command either to ask Omar Abdullah to quit and make a way for Congress party candidate for the post of the Chief Minister or to accept their resignation from the basic membership of the Congress party. The sources said that Congress party leaders and workers are ready to go up to any extent as far as pursuing the party high command for change of guard in the state of Jammu and Kashmir after Omar Abdullah completes three year tenure in office. The sources said that due to delay on part of the party high command, the resentment of Congress party workers in state is growing day by day, as they feel that the Congress party may lose its base in Jammu and Kashmir, which increase many fold in last one decade. The sources said that despite Congress leadership at Delhi has assured some of its senior party leaders to reassess the performance of the coalition government and subsequently decided over the issue of rotational Chief Minister, but the Congress leadership in Jammu and Kashmir is in no mood to let it down and instead losing its cool as each day passes which can be witnessed from fresh move of 7 party MLAMLC's. The sources said that any delay in decision on part of the central leadership is hurting the sentiments of party leaders/workers but will ultimately cost the party in near future in case the party high command remains indecisive over the issue of rotational Chief Minister. The sources said that Congress leadership in Jammu and Kashmir did not want to promote the name of any leader for the post of Chief Minister. "We demanded for Congress Chief Minister, no matter he should be Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz or Ghulam Nabi Azad or anyone else---- what we want is the Chief Minister from Congress party." The sources added while clearing the air on who will be the Congress party candidate in case the party high command decided in favour of replacement of Omar Abdullah. It is believed that the war between the Congress and NC leadership over the rotational Chief Minister issue is in advance stage and could go either way as UPA leadership is yet to open his cards over the much hyped issue of Rotational Chief Minister.
Meanwhile another party sources claims that UPA chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi will finalize the list of Congress ministers to be inducted into the cabinet within few days. The sources said that the party high command after finalizes the list of the ministers, will authorized JKPCC President Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz to go ahead with cabinet reshuffle/expansion, even though National Conference will remain undecided over the matter related to their own quota of ministers. The sources said that the framing of fresh list of ministers in no mean will dilute the issue of rotational Chief Minister as the modalities of the coalition government will remain same even if the demand of rotational Chief Minister will be accepted by the party high command. The sources within the Congress blame National Conference for delay in cabinet reshuffle/expansion, since NC fails to reach any conclusion over the possible candidates for cabinet reshuffle/expansion. "The strength of the Cabinet is fixed, what is hurting the NC is that, they (NC) have more ministerial candidates as compared to the number of seats available." The sources feels. However the sources maintained that the issue pertains to National Conference and it is NC who had to decide about their own ministerial candidates. No matter in the end who will win the battle of power in Jammu and Kashmir, but till something conclusive will come out, the state politics in Jammu and Kashmir will remain on high note.
