Akhnoor to get another bridge over River Chenab soon: Sham | 'Centre also sanctioned special KV for border people' | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 25: With a view to further improve road connectivity in Akhnoor area, another bridge over River Chenab at Akhnoor will be constructed shortly. The bridge has been proposed to be constructed at Namandhar-Akhnoor at an estimated cost of Rs. 26 crore. This was revealed by the Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma while addressing a largely attended public meeting at Jourian near here today. He said that Central Government has agreed to a proposal of State Government for a new bridge at Akhnoor and work on the project will start soon. With the construction of new bridge, the people of Akhnoor town in particular and Khour-Jourian and other adjoining areas will be benefitted. This was also a long pending demand of the people of this border tehsil. Responding to the demand of people for construction of a bridge at Indri Pattan, he said that demand will be examined on merit and an appropriate decision will be taken at an appropriate time. The Minister said that Coalition Government has been according focused attention to upgrade the existing infrastructure in all sectors and measures initiated during the past three years have started giving dividends on ground and people have acknowledged the change. He said road connectivity is the vital factor for the development of any area and almost all the villages of Akhnoor have been connected with black-topped roads and there is hardly any difference between rural and urban areas. He said Government has provided equal opportunities of jobs, development and other facilities to the people of rural areas. The education, health, road connectivity, PHE sectors remained areas of priority and massive development in these sectors has taken place. He apprised that after 2002, 126 tube wells have been constructed in Akhnoor area. He said that all old WSS schemes will be upgraded to improve their efficacy, he added. Similarly, in health sector the Government has decided to construct new buildings of hospitals at Akhnoor and Jourian. The sites of both these hospitals have been identified and work would start soon. The building of Khour hospital is at the final stage and would be dedicated to people soon. These hospitals will cater to the needs of Akhnoor tehsil as well as other adjoining areas, the Minister asserted. To improve the education scenario in the area, the Central Government has sanctioned a special Civil Kendriya Vidhalya for the people of border areas. This CKV will be established in Jourian town and will facilitate many aspirants from the area. This was also a long pending demand of the area and this could be possible with the earnest efforts of Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma. To give impetus to the sports activities in the rural areas and to channelize the energy of rural youth towards positive direction, the Government would establish a multi-purpose sports stadium near Jourian. This would facilitate hundreds of youth of the area to prepare themselves for different competitions, he maintained. In view of the local bodies elections which are approaching shortly in Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister asked the people to gear up for the exercise. He asked them to elect genuine representatives in the elections to ensure development of their areas. He said Sarpanchs, Panchs have taken over the responsibility of their areas and they are directly responsible for the local development according to the needs. Government has restored powers to them and they can take decisions at their level and contribute in the development process, he added. On the occasion, the Minister directed the sectoral officers of various departments to attend people's problems on priority. He directed them to conduct frequent touring in the field to address on-the-spot problems of locals.
