| Sarkar ko sugar ho gayi hai, alleges Sadhotra | | | Jammu, January 12 The Assembly witnessed a walkout by senior NC leader Ajay Sadhotra on non-availability of sugar in Jammu region for the last one year. Not satisfied with the response of CAPD Minister Taj Mohi-ud-din , Sadhotra mocked the govt alleging “Sarkar ko sugar ho gayi hai”, which angered the Minister and the duo were locked in a verbal duel. No sugar has been made available to the people of Jammu by the CAPD department, alleged Sadhotra, contesting the claims made by the Minister in his reply. Demanding to know what was the status of sugar supply in the last one-year, the NC leader said that the response made by the Minister was inadequate and he walked out saying ‘Sarkar ko sugar ho gayi hai”. Earlier in reply to the Calling Attention Notice of Ajay Sadhotra regarding acute shortage of sugar in Jammu region, Minister for CAPD Taj Mohi-ud-Din told Legislative Assembly that “there is no shortage of sugar in any part of Jammu region at present. During the month of December 2006, the quota of sugar at prescribed scale of 700 grams per head has been issued to the consumers in all parts of Jammu region. Monthly allocation of sugar for Jammu region is 31014.00 quintals for distribution among rationees as census 2001, against which the department has lifted 31162.00 quintals during December 2006. There are adequate stocks of sugar available in the Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution at various stores and the FCI has also sufficient stocks available at present in Jammu region”.
