Edu authorities warn stern action against teachers | Closure of schools in Zone Balakote | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 25: Taking serious exception to the reports regarding closure of schools inside the fence in Zone Blakote of Mendhar tehsil in Poonch district, the higher ups in Education Department have warned to take a strict action against the erring teachers who have been skipping their duties for months together resulting in closure of schools in the area. According to sources out of 22 schools inside the fence along ALC, maximum remain closed due to non availability of teachers forcing the people of the area to launch a strong protest. The irate residents also brought the matter in the notice of Education Minister as well as Secretary Education seeking their immediate intervention in the matter and action against the erring teachers. Succumbing to the pressure of people the local authorities on Thursday visited the area and managed to open the school inside the fence area which was closed for over two months. Sources said that people alleged that while one school is closed for over two months, after the lone RET teacher on his regularization was transferred to a nearby middle School the remaining schools also remain closed often due to absence of teachers. This has affected the career of students in this border belt completely. In their protest against the authorities the panchs and Sarpanchs of the area who led the demonstration also warned to intensify the agitation in case the attention was not paid to make schools functional in the border belt. ``Our children have suffered a lot and their career is at stake in case no proper attention is paid to redress the problem and teachers responsible for dereliction of their duty are taken to task'' said Ghulam Mohammed Choudhary, a resident of Balakote. He took the Education authorities to task for their failure in making teaching staff punctual and accountable resulting in their willfulness. He said a delegation of the people led by Nambaradars and sarpanchs also met the SDM Mendhar and Deputy Chief Education Officer, Mendhar and brought the matter in their notice. The people are totally agitated over the functioning of the Education Department in this far flung and border belt. They alleged bungling in mid day meal and saying that the number of students has been written more than the actual roll in the schools. This is being done in connivance with the officers and teachers in charge for managing mid day meal in the area. The people have demanded a thorough probe into the matter and action against the teachers and officers responsible for the bungling. Acting on the complaint of the people the Education authorities in Poonch have constituted a committee to probe the matter.
