Even subordinate police officers like SHOs, SDPOs are in line of violators

JAMMU, Dec 25: Notwithstanding the warnings of Traffic Police wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police pertaining to the use of Red Flasher lights on the top of the vehicles, the general public is witnessing open violation of the Traffic rules, every day.
Shockingly, the violation is being done by none other than most of Escort vehicles of Council of Ministers, Commissioner Secretaries and other senior officials. And if any officer concerned has any doubt in this regard, one can just spot such violations while standing on the entry gate of Civil Secretariat, here.
Furthermore astonishing fact is that even the Station House Officers (SHOs) deputed at various police stations and Sub Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) posted at different Sub Divisions are using police gypsy vehicles with Red Flasher on the top of their respective vehicles.
On December 21st, a "Public Notice" was issued which read: "the government of J&K (Transport Department) viz; SRO-33, SRO-412 and SRO-31 issued from time to time has authorized the use of Red Flasher Light on the top of the vehicle by the below mentioned High Dignitaries/Officers besides vehicles of some emergency services." The notice mentioned the designations of 47 dignitaries which included, Hon'ble Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Chairman, Legislative Council, Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Cabinet Minister, Minister of State, Judges of High Court, Principal District and Session Judges, Chairperson of various Boards, DGPs, ADGPs, Principal Secretaries, District Magistrates, Divisional Commissioners, IGPs (Zone), DIGs (range), District SPs etc.
Interestingly, there is no mentioning of SPs, Additional SPs, SDPOs, SHOs but even then the said officers are using Red Flasher. Furthermore, when it has been clearly mentioned that Escort Vehicles of the said dignitaries shall be using Blue Flasher Light even then the norms are being openly violated with senior officers on Traffic wing watching all these scenes as mute spectators.
"First of all the notice shall not have been mentioned as Public Notice as it is not the general public who is violating such norms. It must have been Notice to government officials/officers to adhere to the laid down traffic police norms," shared a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity. He further expressed, if such notices are to be issued then senior police officers in Traffic wing must be on the roads personally supervising such violations and stopping the violating Escort vehicles even of Ministers and Babus and booking under Rules.
